the king of seo - wordpress
limited, beginner seo
With all the design freedom that comes with Showit, it can be a little overwhelming the first time you jump in there, but once you get the hang of things, you'll love the capabilities you have to create something unique and that's easy to update on your own!
a bit of learning curve
more simple to begin
The SEO tools within Squarespace are pretty limited and you'll need to do a lot more work with your content and research to push up your pages ranking.
Squarespace allows you to sell products directly within it's platform which can be a big perk for some people if you are selling a physical product or needing a storefront.
Mobile design is responsive BUT it is not fully customizable. Squarespace takes your website design and translate it to mobile which has it's pros and cons.
No coding knowledge needed in order to customize your template with your content, color and such BUT you are limited to the provided framework setup by the template designer.
Because Squarespace limits you to editing the basics and keeps you within the confines of the template you are using, you'll find that it is more intuitive to get started but you will have more of a cookie-cutter website and for any design customizations, you'll need to hire it out.
Showit is super user-friendly as it requires ZERO coding knowledge. You simply buy a template, customize it to your little heart's content - changing the colors, fonts, images, text all with a few clicks and launch that beautiful new website. Now, while it is user friendly and completely drag and drop, there is for sure a bit of a learning curve like most things with technology. It's so worth it in the end though as you put in a bit of time! My website workshop is perfect for learning the ropes of Showit, without the headache of trying to figure out the interface all on your own.
Showit is your website host and your website builder. That means you still need another host for your domain and your email. For this I usually recommend GoDaddy or Google Domains. Both have a great reputation and amazing support and offer both domain and email hosting for an affordable rate. You may also look into other third party integrations you might want with showit such as call scheduling (acuity, calendly), a CRM (dubsado, honeybook), an ESP (flodesk, mailerlite) and a course or ecommerce platform (kajabi, thinkific, thrivecart, shopify). All of these can easily be integrated with Showit to round off your business needs!
Yes! You cannot use a Showit template on any other website platform. And you cannot use a wordpress website template on Showit either. Showit templates only work on Showit so make sure you are aware of the ongoing subscription cost and also the fact that you will have to migrate your content over to your new Showit website.
You can sign up for a free trial of Showit anytime! I highly recommend it so you can get a feel for how things work. But if you start feeling overwhelmed or intimidated, don't fret as each of my own Showit website designs give you the ability to join my Website Workshop which includes a step-by-step course that teaches you everything you need to know about setting up your website.
Showit support is awesome! Their team will help you via the help chat and usually responses are within the hour or so. They also have an extensive help doc library with tons of tutorials and solutions for you to check out at anytime. We also provide support for our template purchases for up to 30 days so don't hesitate to reach out and we can either assist or let you know if it's something Showit support will have to handle on their backend.
Showit is perfect for any service-based industry. No matter what you do or offer, as long is you need a website to house your information and your offers, Showit is for you. I've helped and seen it utilized by Photographers, Coaches, Dentists, Nutritionists, Bloggers, Doctors, Interior Designers, Home Organizers, Non-Profits, Virtual Assistants, Social Media Managers, Educators, and so on. The only people I do not necessarily recommend it for are physical e-commerce stores with more than 10 items or so. You would be better served with a Shopify website or a Wordpress website with woocommerce for greater ecommerce functionality and ease. Unless you are willing to hire a developer to custom code your Showit site with woocommerce or use Shopify as an additional website for your storefront and house your main information on your Showit site.
Showit and Wordpress work together seamlessly. Your blog design is created within Showit using placeholders for the content that you will create within the Wordpress dashboard as blog posts. When blogging you will jump into your Wordpress account (setup and provided by Showit), and it will auto-populate your posts within your Showit live site. Beyond customizing your design within Showit if you feel the need, you won't really touch the blog templates within Showit, you'll do all your blogging inside Wordpress. I know it's kind of confusing but trust me, once you actually get in there, it should make more sense!
With Showit you are paying not only for hosting but also for the builder. The website builder is completely one of a kind and worth every penny. You can make updates to your images and copy with just a few clicks; change up the design completely by rearranging, hiding or deleting elements as needed; all of this with zero coding. If you want to customize a Wordpress template you will need to either know how to code or hire a developer (most likely with a monthly maintenance service) to make changes and updates for you. What you save in hosting fees, you'll more than likely pay more for outsourcing these things that you can easily do on your own within Showit. You get what you pay for. If you want a unique, easy-to-maintain website then Showit is the builder for you.
You can switch to a new Showit template in the future for sure, but unfortunately you would need to copy and paste or recreate your content over within the new template, it does not automatically transfer over. This is because each design is totally unique and there are not standardized blocks or coding that make an automatic transfer possible. This can be a pain but honestly it goes pretty fast just copying over everything or using it as a time to refresh your website content in general!
